WSU Tech’s Automotive Center Grand Reopening: A New Era for Automotive Education

September 20th, 2024 by

On Friday, September 20th, Wichita State University Campus of Applied Sciences and Technology (WSU Tech) celebrated the grand reopening of its newly renovated Automotive Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the City Center Campus. This $3 million renovation marks a significant milestone for WSU Tech, as it not only upgrades the facility but also introduces the brand-new Mobile Equipment program, designed to further automotive and transportation education.

The event was a reflection of strong partnerships, including the generous contributions made by Walser Automotive Group and WKI Kenworth. Walser’s support, through the Walser Foundation, has played a pivotal role in making this state-of-the-art facility a reality. The collaboration between Walser and WSU Tech began in 2022, focusing on creating long-term opportunities for both students and the automotive industry.

Walser’s involvement goes beyond financial support. The partnership provides an incredible chance to engage with students early in their educational journey, building meaningful relationships that are crucial to the industry’s future. With the growing shortage of experienced technicians, nurturing talent from within is key. By working closely with WSU Tech, Walser can connect with students from the beginning, ensuring a strong pipeline of future leaders and skilled professionals.

Walser’s team will continue to visit the campus regularly, while students and faculty will be welcomed to the Walser Auto Campus, creating a reciprocal learning environment. Walser staff will also participate in classes and events, sharing real-world insights and expertise to further enhance the relationship. This ongoing collaboration will play an essential role in ensuring the success of the program and addressing the automotive industry’s technician shortage.

The grand reopening of WSU Tech’s Automotive Center is more than just a celebration of a building—it’s a commitment to the future of automotive education and a new chapter in Walser’s continued efforts to invest in local talent. Together, WSU Tech and Walser are shaping the next generation of automotive professionals.
